Foot massage or royal Thai foot massage has been practiced in Thailand since the 16th century. In its early days, royal Thai foot was reserved, just like Nuad plakob, also known as Siamese tampon massage, for the King and high-ranking figures of the monarchy in Ayutthaya, the former Thai capital. Later, the royal temple's private physician, Dr. Shivakomarat, who adored this massage, suggested to the monarch that the people should also benefit from it, in order to maintain their better health. After the decline of Ayutthaya in the 18th century, Royal Thai foot became, along with Nuad Bo Rarn and Nuad plakob, a therapy intended to prevent and treat diseases. This gentle wellness method is currently widespread in all four corners of the world. In wartime, this method was also used to soothe soldiers' muscle pain and prepare them for combat. Royal Thai foot massage is a complete therapy and gives the recipient the opportunity to relax and release their body from the tensions accumulated daily. There is an Asian proverb that suggests that when you touch someone's feet, you can also touch their soul. While it does not replace modern medicine, the "royal foot thai massage" is very beneficial for the body. It brings to the person who receives it a surprising feeling of relaxation because it is inspired by ancient Chinese medicine methods. Traditionally performed after a foot bath and a quick massage with camphor or lemongrass, the leg is massaged from the toes to the knees. This massage is performed manually and then with the help of a wooden massage stick called a "Woodstick", which stimulates plantar reflexology points, muscles, lymph and blood circulation in the feet and legs. It is important to note that the Royal Thai Foot massage also includes some leg massage techniques to harmonize the feet with the legs and to prevent the feeling of heavy legs at the end of the massage.
